The corporate mainstream media is dead. Its death certificate reads “self-inflicted implosion” caused by continually doubling down on lies when truth would have sustained their waning credibility during the final weeks leading up to election 2016. With an explosion of alternative voices and truthful narratives replacing poorly crafted lies, the corporate mainstream media refused to adapt to the rapidly changed landscape and needs of its viewers. Their obsolete model collapsed in spectacular fashion in full public view signifying a new paradigm they are now ill-prepared and poorly positioned for.
Rushing to resuscitate the expired idea of centralized, mega-corporate funded media sources were corporate-backed government employees Hillary Clinton and President Obama. Both spoke down to their audiences in laughably dominant tones that left those who already walked away from the abusive media narratives with bad tastes in their mouths. The fact that both Clinton and Obama needed to address and no longer ignore the loss of faith in corporate media – and in many ways themselves – shows the degree of its collapse into irrelevance. First they ignore you, then they address you authoritatively and then you win.
Now it is the dominant social media platforms that are on the chopping block. Having been utilized and wielded as the major weapon by the awakened population lunging towards truth and transparency, outlets like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are now making dangerous choices. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently outlined the company’s plans to combat what he calls “misinformation” by stating:
“Historically, we have relied on our community to help us understand what is fake and what is not. Anyone on Facebook can report any link as false, and we use signals from those reports along with a number of others -- like people sharing links to myth-busting sites such as Snopes -- to understand which stories we can confidently classify as misinformation.”
The website Snopes.com has been a notoriously skewed arbitrator and biased gatekeeper of truth since its inception. The website’s integrity has taken major hits over the years for attempting to dispel and label “false” the dangers of Monsanto’s herbicide glyphosate, for parroting the corrupt US Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) false vaccine talking points of ‘safe and effective,’ for attempting to bury the idea that Dr. William Thompson, otherwise known as ‘The CDC Whistle Blower,’ ever existed and for refusing to entertain the idea that genetically modified foods (GMO) pose health risks.
It is safe to say that with Zuckerberg’s new direction for Facebook, once viral discussions around vaccine safety, the autism epidemic, the failed experiment of the agrochemical food industry and its associated toxic products and whistleblowers who threaten corporate and governmental power will be silenced.
Although the exact details of how Facebook and Zuckerberg plan to filter, censor and mute our data remain unclear, the social media platform’s record of censorship has been sliding down the slippery slope of suppression recently. The irony of an outlet that demands and receives your detailed personal information while at the same time discloses little about how that information is used, filtered, stored and censored is not lost on the now awakened public.
From an onlooker's perspective, Facebook’s censorship operates like an enemy who is constantly testing the defenses of its opponent. Much of their censoring operations remains in the shadows of algorithms outside the public’s consciousness. Yet often the perimeters of truth are tested in plane view and the public instantly rises up to defend en masse. It is at that moment that the enemy (Facebook) retreats, apologizes and explains away its advance as a one time accident. Their predictable excuse has worn thin when viewed from a historical perspective of continued abuse and underhanded behavior. It appears that is why Facebook has signed on to the dead corporate media’s transparent narrative of ‘fake news’. Twitter has also enacted new rounds of censorship to limit dissenting voices and free speech that is contradicting and exposing government hypocrisy, corporate overreach and criminal behavior of those in power.
Critical masses of the public are now activated and looking for truth. Their senses have been tuned to detect and despise the many manifestations censorship has taken in the social media age of information. It appears that Facebook and other social media giants, like the once mighty corporate media, will experience a swift death of their relevance, market share and influence as they fruitlessly attempt to wrestle the control of truth and ideas from the individual hands of a rapidly awakening global population.
NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden recently had this to say about the creeping control of Facebook and its censorship-minded co-conspirators:
“I don’t think many people need to have this explained to them, that when you type something into the Google search box, it’s Google that decides what you get back. When you go to your Facebook page, it’s Facebook that decides what news it is that you see on your page. When you go to a platform like Twitter, or any of these, really, the voices that are heard are the ones that are selected and permitted by the corporation.”
As the public moves forward, their collective attention, creativity and energy is being increasingly directed into areas that provide lasting solutions, truth and transparency. Hollow structures like Facebook attempting to capture the people's creative goodwill and consciousness will now longer be able to operate with impunity.
