*UPDATE: An arbitrator has ruled that over 30 Ontario area hospitals that have implemented a “vaccinate or mask” policy will no longer be able to use this method to encourage flu vaccination.
A new study published by PLOS One has cast serious doubt on the highly contested practice of forcing health care professionals to take flu shots. The increasing resistance of heath care workers to take mandatory flu vaccines has forced some hospitals to take questionable measures — such as withholding pay and terminating employment — to force compliance. Such heavy-handed and authoritarian measures has lead to internal disobedience among staff and has seen scores of healthcare workers vocalize their discontent on social media platforms.
An unbiased report by STAT, typically an adversarial, unsympathetic media outlet to issues surrounding health freedom and vaccine choice, saw ample page-time dedicated to dissenting voices who shamed the idea of forcing flu shots on healthcare workers.
The study, published Friday in PLOS One, concludes that the research used to justify mandatory flu shots for health sector workers is flawed, and that the policies cannot plausibly produce the benefits that had widely been assumed. The new study concluded by stating, after further analysis, the four cluster randomized controlled trials (cRCTs) conducted in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) used to justify forced flu shots on healthcare workers are “exaggerated”. The PLOS One study continues to conclude that the “implausibly large reductions in patient risk” showed by the four studies in question cast “serious doubts on their validity.”
The PLOS One lead author Dr. Gaston De Serres said. “The reason why I do that is I continue to have the impression that it could work. But it’s one thing to say: ‘OK, on a voluntary basis, you get the vaccine despite all its weaknesses,’ and it’s another thing to say, ‘If you don’t get it, you get fired.’”
De Serres told STAT “Do we have scientific data supporting that [forcing flu shots on healthcare workers]? I think the bottom line of our paper is to say there is no valid scientific evidence, even now, underpinning enforced health care worker immunizations.”
Unethical healthcare facility policies and firings have been challenged in front of labor tribunals and courts. In those cases, employers regularly point to four — now untrustworthy and highly questionable — studies to bolster the argument that vaccinating health care workers reduces the risk of vulnerable patients contracting influenza from caregivers.
The groups Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines and Physicians for Informed Consent have gained steady membership as the flu shot, and other vaccines, have seen a coordinated push upon healthcare workers and the public alike. The 2008 measure — National Quality Forum 0431 — caused mandatory [forced] flu vaccines to be implemented. Since then, numerous bills, such as the recent Missouri Senate Bill 117, have sought to aggressively expand the standing orders of forced flu shots for workers with language as follows (taken from SB117):
“(2) “Inspected facility", any private or public institution, facility or agency, whether organized for profit or not, used, operated, or designed to provide health services, medical treatment, or nursing, rehabilitative, or preventative care to any person or persons that is inspected by the department of health and senior services”
Over the recent years there has been a critical mass of individuals waking up to the fraud and corruption that surround vaccine manufacturers, forced vaccination legislation, and vaccine research. The mainstream public is becoming activated and disgusted by the truth of mounting vaccine injury no longer able to be swept under the rug by pharmaceutical companies and their corporate media mouthpieces.
