For many, the idea of a soul mate only exists as some empty gesture contained inside a Hallmark card. For others, the word invokes some abstract spiritual concept not rooted in life’s real experiences. The word soul mate is a placeholder of high honor reserved for the ones that pass though our lives and leave those uniquely beautiful lessons forever stamped into our consciousness. The word soul mate itself pales in comparison to the leap in evolution these souls leave on the experiencer. Emotions vividly run through all their colors while these great teachers walk with us for just a short time. No stone is unturned as your innermost weaknesses, programs and secrets are exposed like a mirror glaring back at you with clarity begging to be worked through.
Popular belief teaches we should seek to find our soul mate and hold onto them for dear life once discovered. Yet this commonly held idea is false and misses the entire lesson. Looking back on one’s life, a soul mate was the person who briefly walked through our life experience — and then walked on. These teachers often come in unexpected forms. A lover, a best friend, a child, a parent or perhaps even an animal. They instantly see your innermost abilities and gifts — a soul mate sees who you really are and challenges you to become a better version of yourself. In reality, this process can be uncomfortable and for this reason, a relationship with a soul mate can be fiery, passionate or volatile. Yet at the end of the day when life decides your time together is over, it is then when the lessons are activated and a greater knowing can be seen. As the teachings take hold, it is then up to you to become the person your soul mate challenged you to become. In its purest form, these lessons, teachings and experiences given by a soul mate are done from the highest place of love and patience. Contained in the video below is what I have learned from my soul mates. What have you learned from yours?
