The legal counsel of Dr. Sears is asking the public to refrain from contacting the medical board at this time. On September 2, the California Medical Board released publicly the documents accusing Dr. Sears of “gross negligence” for writing a medical exemption for a child in 2014. One by one, alternative media outlets, local news and even the LA Times each ran their versions of the story. On most days, media moves fast in the age of information and short attention spans. Big stories are swallowed up and forgotten while smaller stories get almost no attention. However in California, where the readership is stacked with activated communities in a battle for their health freedom, some stories strike sparks.
The accusations against Dr. Sears caused the public to do what any population would do who have watched their representatives ignore them, their law makers legislate against their health freedom and their Centers for Disease Control and Prevention propose quarantining and detaining them using nebulous definitions. The people of the US took to social media and started vital discussion. In addition, many slated Monday as 'Dr. Sears day' in which the hashtag #StandWithSears was to be used in a Twitter storm and Californians were urged to contact the medical board. Instead, a legal fund will be set up in the near future to assist Dr. Sears in his defense. Since Dr. Sears’s case is an individual matter, unlike SB277, it makes sense and is understandable to respect the wishes of his legal counsel. After all, they are the people he is trusting with his fate.
SB277’s power grab has activated a critical mass of citizen journalists and social media communities that are capable of beating any news outlet to the punch with greater speed and accuracy. All publicly released documents or legal action that even hint at the persecution, true or false, of doctors who are writing medical exemptions are flooded with instant attention and creative conscious resistance. Moving forward, it's the medical boards that must reconsider any potential witch hunts or heavy handed oversight regarding doctors who write medical exemptions in California. The public is awake and staring at their every move. Regardless of the specifics of the case and ruling Dr. Sears eventually receives, the precedent that it is politically and socially incorrect to consider targeting doctors who issue medical exemptions is being rooted.
Dr. Kalb's Story
While Dr. Sears is asking us to sit on the sidelines for the moment, Dr. Kalb needs our help. It is tough to know when AutismOne 2016 attendee, Dr. Daniel Kalb's, MD, MPH, FAAFB 'aha' moment occurred. Perhaps the awakening happened while Dr. Kalb sat through the lecture titled 'Dissecting Whistleblower Documents: A Story of Corruption' in which Dr. Brian Hooker, Dr. Judy Mikovitz and Michael Hugo presented damning evidence and documents to a standing room only crowd — greeted to many rounds of applause during their hour and a half presentation. Or perhaps it was during the premiere and following Q&A session of the documentary film Vaxxed at the conference. Regardless, there is one thing for certain, Dr. Kalb will never be the same family physician again. The proof of his transformation can be observed by reading the public release from his Cool Springs Tennessee family practice titled “No More Vaccines at Cool Springs Family Medicine" (now taken offline).
In the post, Cool Springs Family Medicine outlines eight reasons they will no longer vaccinate their patients. The empowering public release concludes by stating:
“…just as I have always done, as is my responsibility as a Family Physician, I will be an advocate for each of my patients as best as I know how. Also, I will always continue to respect the informed choices my patients make.”
Daniel Kalb also posted on his blog and Facebook page that he would no longer administer vaccines from his office. His opinion that in some cases vaccines may be linked to Autism and other neuroimmune problems, created tremendous opposition from many people, including physicians, who promised to report Dr. Kalb to the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners to have his license suspended. Less than 72 hours later, the Board initiated their investigation and currently shows no signs of stopping. They are not only questioning Dr. Kalb about his statement regarding vaccines and autism, but they are investigating his treatments of patients with other immune dysfunction disorders including PANDAS/PANS, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Lyme Disease.
The Board has taken issue with how Dr. Kalb includes researched based strategies for the natural removal of toxins such as heavy metals, his discussion with patients about Helminth therapy, and the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. The Board is also investigating Dr. Kalb’s discussion with his patients of CBD oil derived from the Hemp plant (without THC), for use in Autism and seizures, and in other patients for which there is proven benefit, such as those with self-injurious behavior, patients with Chronic Pain, immune dysfunction, headaches and neuroinflammation.
